What does a one-way container mean?
A one-way container is a shipping container that has completed only one sea voyage from China to Europe and therefore shows only minimal signs of wear.
Can shipping containers be used for housing?
Yes, shipping containers are widely used around the world for the construction of sustainable modular homes, offices and commercial facilities.
Do I need a building permit?
Building regulations vary by country and local jurisdiction. The need for a permit depends on the size, purpose and location of the container. We recommend checking the applicable requirements with your local building authority before installation.
What is the lifespan of a container and what maintenance is required?
Thanks to corrosion-resistant COR-TEN steel, shipping containers typically have a lifespan of 20 to 30 years. Maintenance requirements are minimal – occasional lubrication of the door hinges and avoiding direct contact with wet soil or grass are usually sufficient.
How should the foundation be prepared before delivery?
A level and solid surface is essential. To ensure proper ventilation underneath the container, it is usually sufficient to support its four corners with concrete slabs, foundation blocks or similar supports.
What is the difference between Standard and High Cube (HC) containers?
The difference lies in the height. High Cube containers are approximately 30 cm taller and offer a comfortable internal height of around 2.7 m (compared to 2.4 m for standard containers), making them ideal for conversions, workshops and improved accessibility.
